How the mod grew

The sizes tell their own story. The v0.71 beta is about 12.5 MB; by 1.8 the file passes 50 MB, and the 1.9 line sits around 86 MB. Most of that growth is content: more sounds, textures, entities and structures. It is also why newer builds benefit from a little more memory, covered in the performance guide.

Notes on 1.9.3

The archive's notes for 1.9.3 mention new events, a new anomaly, a new structure and bug fixes. For most other entries the change notes are placeholders, so we have not tried to fill them in from memory or rumour.

Why play an older build

Older builds are smaller, simpler and closer to what early videos of the mod showed. Some players replay them out of curiosity; others use them to compare how an event or structure changed. Keep each version in its own instance so worlds from different builds never mix. The variant labels around 1.9 are explained in our safe and unsafe build guide, and a condensed version of this table appears in the release information section.
