Players often search for The Broken Script Mod on CurseForge first, because that is where many Minecraft mods live. With this mod the picture is less tidy, and it is worth knowing why.
The CurseForge question
The CurseForge page for The Broken Script Patches, a community add-on, states that the 1.20.1 Forge version of The Broken Script is not available on CurseForge. CurseForge does list several community modpacks built around the mod, and those pages show Forge 1.20.1 as their loader and version.
Modrinth
The same add-on page points to Modrinth as the place to get the Forge version. Modrinth listings show the uploader and version history, which makes it easier to see what you are installing.
The community archive
The download offered on this site is a GitHub-hosted community archive. It is a compact package (about 0.4 MB) containing an index page of archived builds, from the v0.71 beta to 1.9.3, plus datamining pages and structure files. Each archived build links to its own download. It is useful for older versions and for comparing releases, but it is maintained by the community rather than the mod's developer.
How to judge a source
- A real mod download is a
.jarfile. Be suspicious of.exeinstallers or APKs claiming to be the mod. - Check that the file name and size are plausible: recent builds are around 86 MB.
- Prefer pages that show who uploaded the file and when it changed.
- Scan the file before you launch it, and keep it in its own profile.
Using the CurseForge app anyway
If you already manage your mods with the CurseForge app, create a custom profile with Forge on 1.20.1, open its folder from the profile menu and place the jar in mods. The app will launch it like any other mod even though it was not installed from the catalogue.
